<p><strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">Tips to Reduce Renovation Costs</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"></span></strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">There are so many benefits that you stand to gain when you renovate your home, the most obvious one being that of a good-looking and well-maintained home whose value is raised considerably. Besides this, you also get to live in a more comfortable home, one that looks and feels as good as a new one but which still retains all that you’ve come to love about your old one. Home improvements are good no doubt, but they tend to play havoc with your finances. If you’re looking for ways to reduce and minimize your renovation costs, here’s what you need to do:<span id="more-1520"></span></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"> </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Symbol"><span>·<span style="font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'">        </span></span></span><strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">Plan, Plan and Plan: </span></strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">Any renovation worth its salt must be well planned so as to establish a proper budget and avoid unnecessary costs. When you plan exactly what you’re going to do and how you’re going to do it, you’re not only able to finish your improvement project on time, you’re also able to save a whole lot of money when you’re able to stick to your budget and avoid unnecessary alterations.</span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"> </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Symbol"><span>·<span style="font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'">        </span></span></span><strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">Reduce, Recycle, Reuse: </span></strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">When you reduce your usage, recycle what’s already available, and reuse wherever possible, you tend to save on costs and also play your part in doing your bit for the environment. It’s easy to recycle and reuse wood, aluminum and glass and reduce usage of wood and other materials that are not harvested through sustainable methods. </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Symbol"><span>·<span style="font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'">        </span></span></span><strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">DIY With Caution: </span></strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">Doing minor tasks yourself will save you some money, but you need to remember that some projects may be beyond your ability. If so, you’re going to incur more costs than before because the professional in charge of the task will have to undo the damage that you’ve done before attempting to complete it. Take on DIY projects with care, and do them only if you’re certain of saving on costs.</span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"> </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"></span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Symbol"><span>·<span style="font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'">        </span></span></span><strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">Time Your Purchases: </span></strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">Some materials are cheaper at certain times of the year, so if you plan your purchases well in advance and time them to take advantage of low prices, you’re going to be able to save a whole lot of money. </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">Besides this, bargaining for the best deals and rates can bring your home improvement budget down considerably.</span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"> </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"></span><strong><u><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">By-line:</span></u></strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial">This article is written by Kat Sanders, who regularly blogs on the topic of <a href="http://constructionmanagementdegree.org/">construction management degree</a> at her blog The Fixer-Upper Blog. </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: Arial"> <em>keep up to date with vancouver&#8217;s changing market, subscribe via RSS or email</em></span></p>
