Reverse Mortgages

New Zealand-based Seniors Money is moving into Western Canada to challenge the near lock on the reverse mortgage market held by the Canadian Home Income Plan, a subsidiary of Home Equity Income Trust.

The variable interest rate is 7.25%. No payments are made until the home is sold or an estate settled.

Condo Market and Speculators

“Throughout the Greater Vancouver Regional District, end-users have replaced the speculative investors as the primary [new] condo purchaser,” concluded Jennifer Podmore, managing partner of MPC Intelligence.

Canada’s population has exceeded the 33-million mark, according to preliminary demographic estimates, which also show that Saskatchewan has more than 1 million people for the first time since 2001.
