False Creek lies on the south side of the body of water that also bears its name, bordered by Cambie Street on the east side and Burrard Street on the west side. This waterfront neighbourhood was developed in the 1970s. A large portion of the land in False Creek if leased from the City of Vancouver and the condos are subject a monthly land lease payment, unless they opted to pre-pay the land lease, most of which expire in 2036. The real estate is less expensive because there is no ownership o the land. Developments, such as The Lagoons, are a 99 year pre-paid land lease and some, such as Pennyfarthing and some of the Moberly buildings, are freehold land.
