phpxl8fx4pm British Columbia Real Estate Association launches a Green WebsiteBCREA is committed to providing “green” information to Realtors, homebuyers and homeowners.

Its new website will focus on green real estate, water conservation, energy efficiency and parks, all of which add to our quality of life and mirrors their Quality of Life philosophy.

Here you can find information on the benefit of greener homes, making greener renovations, links to rebates and incentives.

Did you know that in a recent survey in 2007, Canadians ranked environmental issues as the #2 issue facing Canada?

A 2007 US Study by McGraw Hill Construction found the following demographic characteristics for the Green homebuyer: 71% female, two-thirds have an annual income over $50,000, average age is 45, tendencies to be married and highly educated.

Another poll taken found 18% of Canadians buy organic food regularly. They were 60% female, more likely to be from BC (30%), slightly more in the 25-34 age bracket than over 55 and under-represented in the $60-80K income range.

We already identify with certain things that make a Green community – recycling, reducing pollution, green spaces.  Does Vancouver do a good job with efficient public transit?  It’s difficult to park my car and get around the West Side in a timely manner. What about densification? City of Vancouver has a great website on ecodensity.

This is truly a great website that BCREA has put together, filled with excellent information about everything Green. Weigh in – are we doing enough? Should we be doing more and if so, what?
